Simulation comes first…
Infinite System Design has extensive experience of developing accurate models of physical systems in simulation to analyse performance under set conditions or duty cycles along with aiding the development of system controllers.
The development of simulation models allows a customer to predict the behaviour of a system under the conditions of the environment either in MiL, SiL or HiL before investing time and money in developing a prototype. This allows the customer to predict energy consumption, packaging and cost whilst investigating if there will be any resonance within the system, key in powertrains looking to achieve excellent NVH.
Controller tuning can be done on a physical system however it is more time and cost effective to carry out initial tuning in simulation and accurate models of the physical system permit this.
Simulation Capabilities:
Development of Simulation Models of Physical Systems
Analysis of Frequency Response
Torsional Analysis
Controller Prediction/Tuning

Case Study: Vehicle Plant Model
Infinite System Design developed a complex multi-DOF (Degree-Of-Freedom) model of a vehicle taking into account resistive factors with a suspension and tyre model. The electric powertrain model included the electric motor/inverter along with single-speed and multiple-speed transmissions plus a battery model. This vehicle plant model was characterised to the customers requirements, i.e. mass, wheel base, etc to provide vehicle range predictions. Simulation models reduce project costs over prototyping.
Case Study: NVH Analysis
Our technical partners Drive System Design developed a complex plant model of a transmission including manufacturing tolerances, synchronisers and clutch taking in mass, inertia and torsional data from the design team to analyse resonance in the system. This simulation model also went on to develop the transmission controller. Accurate plant models save time and money by calibrating MiL (Model-in-the-Loop) reducing real-world calibration process time.
